  • Mary McKenna MBE

    Tech entrepreneur and trustee , Centre for Acceleration of Social technology (CAST), Social Care Institute for Excellence (SCIE) & vInspired

    Mary McKenna is technology entrepreneur and angel investor.  She co-founded successful e-learning company Learning Pool following a long public sector career and a spell as a Silicon Valley dotcommer.  Learning Pool was a very early example of large scale knowledge sharing across UK local government with over a million public servants collaborating and participating in the online community.  

    Mary is interested in helping start and grow indigenous UK tech companies and especially in working with female and young entrepreneurs.  She is one of the Entrepreneurs in Residence at the Northern Ireland Science Park in Belfast, an active member of the Digital Catapult’s Advisory Network and one of the Tech London Advocates.  

    Mary is a trustee of the London based charity, Social Care Institute for Excellence and she sits on the London Board of the Irish International Business Network. She recently joined the ex Nominet Trust investment team in their new venture CAST (Centre for Acceleration of Social Technology) and she’s excited to have been invited to become one of Said Business School's (University of Oxford) Resident Experts.   

    Mary was awarded the MBE by Her Majesty the Queen for services to digital technology, innovation and learning in the 2014 New Year’s Honours.

    Head of digital and publishing , British Museum

    Chris Michaels is head of digital and publishing at the British Museum. His mission is to help the world's first museum achieve its founding goal of being the Museum of and for the world, by fully embracing the potential of mobile, the cloud and big data to transform our visitors' experiences of our programmes and collection.

    Chris was previously CEO at children’s education mobile startup Mindshapes. Backed by Index Ventures and some of the world's greatest gaming entrepreneurs, Mindshapes released over 40 apps with partners including the BBC and the Jim Henson Company, winning multiple awards and delighting children and families around the world.

    Chris has previously been an SVP at international media company Chorion; digital publisher at HarperCollins; and started professional life in advertising. He has a PhD in American Literature from the University of Bristol.
