Aid charities condemn House of Lords Committee report

International aid organisations have criticised today’s House of Lords Economic Affairs Committee report on development aid, which recommends that the government abandons its pledge to spend 0.7 per cent of gross national income on aid from 2013.

The effect of the mere presence of a regulatory body is a 'double edged sword' - it may provide reassurance but it also illustrates that charities can't manage themselves - so - I suspect that the simple presence of a watchdog is likely to have a neutral influence on public trust and confidence.
