The Wellcome Trust is an independent charity funding research to improve human and animal health. It is the largest non-governmental source of funds for biomedical research.
It spends over £600m every year both in the UK and internationally supporting and promoting research for immediate priorities as well as research that will benefit future generations.

It funds research in universities and other academic centres in the UK and in overseas locations, and manages its own projects and initiatives.

It also explores how to improve understanding of the ways in which science and medicine have developed, and how research affects people and society today.
