The Royal National Institute for Deaf People (RNID) is the old name for Action on Hearing Loss, the new brand which came into being on 9 June 2011.

The charity has been supporting those who are deaf or hard of hearing since 1911.

With concentrated services for this select group, RNID has grown as the primary resource for auditory health. RNID is an informative organisation, educating others on the causes of hearing loss, and familiarizing people with communication techniques.

As you might expect, most of RNID’s work deals with congenital defects affecting sensory development. With ongoing research and product development, the charity is also a resource for health professionals. The website has a host of information on preventative care and looks at what some consider the natural hearing loss associated with aging.

Representing the hearing impaired, RNID campaigns for human rights, often calling for the recognition of legal rights when employment discrimination occurs.
