A charity dedicated to preserving and protecting the buildings, countryside and coastline of England, Wales and Northern Ireland.
It protects and opens to the public over 300 historic houses and gardens and 49 industrial monuments and mills, as well as preserving forests, woods, fens, beaches, farmland, downs, moorland, islands, archaeological remains, castles, nature reserves and villages.
It achieves this through practical conservation, learning and discovery, education, and encouraging everyone to visit and enjoy their national heritage.
