Sue Ryder is a charity which provides care services for people with end-of-life and long-term care needs. Each year, it dedicates four million hours to providing palliative care for those suffering with cancer, brain injury, multiple sclerosis, motor neurone disease, Huntington’s and Parkinson’s disease, stroke and dementia in its hospices, care homes and at home care.
It also funds research into improving the standards of long-term and end-of-life care.
For many years the charity was known as Sue Ryder Care but in early 2011 it dropped the word 'Care' from its name, becoming just 'Sue Ryder'. Shortly afterward it announced that it planned to sell off its social homecare business in England to focus on its palliative and neurological care services.
