The Pennies Foundation created an electronic donation system to collect micro-donations for other charities from people. It launched in 2010 and at participating retailers, shoppers can donate when they pay using credit or debit card through a chip and pin machine. Retailers who have signed up to take donations include Domino’s Pizza, the Entertainer, Travelelodge and Zizzi. Most of the money donated goes to the charity or charities nominated by the participating retailer and the rest is split between charities nominated by Pennies. Charities receiving donations include Age UK, Great Ormond Street Hospital Charity and Marie Curie.
